In one of our lessons we went into the edit suit and Matt explained the main differences between a solo artists and bands within the music industry.
The music industry is an industry full of opinions masquerading as facts.
Record labels look for artists with low streaming numbers, with personality and a face that they can sell. There usually has to be something interesting or unusual about them. It can be their style, hair, make up looks, how they talk. They just have to stand out of the crowd.
These days solo artists are more common in the music industry. They get signed more to record labels. It is easier to plese 1 solo artist than for example five band members. Also thanks to lockdown and software more people are able to create music through logic pro and able-ton and don't use physical instruments. this causes less people to want to be in bands.
The most important thing in an artist/band is personality. That's what sells the product.
The music industry get a lot of revenue from live concerts which bands are naturally better at, because a full band of musicians, singers, backing singers and dancers automatically engage with peoples interests more and make them have more things to focus on and it isn't boring to watch.
These days there aren't new bands becoming majorly worldwide successful. The most famous bands are starting to die out and suddenly there is less new bands being formed. There could be possibly in a couple more years a very high demand for new bands, because technically created songs by solo artists can lack energy sometimes because there is no live music being played on stage.
