Today's lesson was the most impactful one so far in our process. By the end of the lesson we came to a decision to go with a completely different song, from a different artist. We were stuck with our song and it was limiting us to make further progress with the planning. It was a mixture of a lot of genres (Regge, jazz, soul) and a mixture of moods. It starts out very moody with the vocals edited with a vintage voice effect, then it goes into a completely happy and upbeat melody and the mood completely shifts. This song was a very difficult choice because of how limited we are on the shoot day, especially with setting it in the studio. Despite us having a face and vibe for the solo artist we made a radical decisions to change the track. This means we have to also create a new cast. I am aiming to find the type of music that could be supported and carried by some of the ideas I had during the planning process I did for the original song that was chosen. I will now have to tell the previous cast that we are not going through with the music video to that song and that we will have to go our separate ways since this is not working for us and it doesn't work well together... we took the kind of approach a Record label would in this situation.
We did explore the idea of using a different song from the artist we chose originally, but it still didn't work. So far I have agreed to shortlist four songs from BandCamp:
Hi Alex
ReplyDeleteA turbulent week for the group! I think you are on a better course now and you can still come out of this with a great campaign IF the group is organised and works effectively both in and outside of lessons. Make a 5 min plan at the start of each lesson and write down who is doing what. One of the good things is that you still have all the planning ahead of you, and a chance to record that on your blog so the examiner can give you credit for your work. There is a lot missing from last week, casting, rehearsals, selecting a track, ideas of set designs and costumes...
